activities of the Thornhill Archives & Special Collections
Committee.

Mandate
|
The Thornhill Archives & Special
Collections was established in 2001 by the Society for the
Preservation of Historic Thornhill. The Archives identifies,
acquires and maintains material of lasting archival, informational,
and historical value, and makes it available to the
public.

Geographical
Focus |
The Archives seeks materials created in or
related to the community of Thornhill, Ontario, Canada.
|
Collections
|
The Archives collects and preserves
information media, regardless of format, from individuals and local
groups which provide information about every day and special
activities in Thornhill.

Organization
|
The Thornhill Archives & Special
Collections is a sub-committee of the Society for the Preservation
of Historic Thornhill (S.P.O.H.T.) which was founded in 1974. The
Society has maintained a provision for the retention and
preservation of historically significant records since its
incorporation in 1979.

Committee
With the establishment of the
"SPOHT Archives Committee" in 2001 (re-named "Thornhill Archives
& Special Collections" in January, 2003) the acquisition,
preservation and access to present and future collections was
formalized.
